About Marches & More

For locals who love where they live.

The Welsh Marches are full of magic. Beautiful towns, wild hills, excellent food, independent shops, tiny festivals, old pubs, hidden gardens.

And yet, finding out about the brilliant things to do around here can be surprisingly hard. This corner of the world doesn’t fit neatly into county or country lines. Crossing borderlands, drifting between counties and popping into another country for lunch, a market or a folk night isn’t a big deal here. It’s a normal Saturday.

Marches & More joins the dots. Every week I dig out the festivals, hidden gems, great food, walks, gigs, workshops and independent businesses that make the Marches special, then send the best of them in one free weekly email.

Note from the Editor

I'm Sarah, mum to a 4 year old, writer and brand strategist. I moved to the Marches seven years ago and promptly became the kind of person who'll cross a county border for a cinnamon bun, a locally sourced feast, or a welcoming folk club.

I started Marches & More because I kept missing things I would have loved and realised the best bits around here are often scattered across Facebook groups, pub posters, parish noticeboards and pure luck.

So now I do the digging, so you don't have to.

See you on Thursday :)

The MAM manifesto

Mam believes a decent pub, a wild view, a good table, a local gathering and a strange little shop can do more for your week than another evening scrolling.

MAM believes locals deserve better than social media algorithmic luck.

Mam believes the countryside is not boring. It is badly signposted.

MAM believes “there’s nothing on” often means “I didn't hear about it”.

MAM believes family days out should include practical details, because parking, toilets and snacks can make or break a human being.

MAM believes loving where you live is an active thing. You have to use it. Walk it. Book it. Eat at the table. Show up in the room. Take the turning. Try the place you keep meaning to try.

The good stuff around here deserves to be found.
